Frequently Asked Questions

What is severe hair matting?

Severe hair matting happens when hair becomes tightly tangled and compacted over time. This can occur due to illness, mental health struggles, disability, trauma, grief, neglect of self-care, or other difficult life circumstances. In many cases, it is not simply “tangled hair” but a complex condition that requires specialist care and patience.

Can severely matted hair really be saved?

Yes, in many cases severely matted hair can be safely detangled and recovered without shaving it off. Every case is different, and the outcome depends on the condition of the hair and scalp, but my goal is always to preserve as much hair as possible while prioritising your comfort and wellbeing.

Will my hair need to be cut off?

Not necessarily. I specialise in hair recovery and will always explore detangling and restoration options first. In some cases, a trim or partial cut may be needed if sections are too damaged, but I will discuss all options with you before anything is done.

How long does the process take?

The time needed varies depending on the severity of the matting and the condition of the hair. Some appointments may take a few hours, while more severe cases can take significantly longer and may require multiple sessions. I will give you an estimated timeframe during your consultation.

Is the process painful?

I work as gently and carefully as possible to minimise discomfort. Some sensitivity can occur, especially if the scalp is tender or the matting is very tight, but I prioritise your comfort throughout the appointment and take breaks whenever needed.

Do you work with clients who have SEN, disabilities, or mental health conditions?

Absolutely. I have extensive experience supporting individuals with additional needs, disabilities, trauma, anxiety, and mental health challenges. I provide a calm, patient, and non-judgemental environment tailored to each client’s needs.

I feel embarrassed about my hair. Will I be judged?

Never. Hair matting can happen to anyone, and there is often a deeper reason behind it. My role is to help and support you, not to judge. All appointments are confidential, compassionate, and focused on making you feel safe and respected.

Can children or teenagers be treated?

Yes. I can work with children and teenagers who are experiencing hair matting or related hair care difficulties. My background in supporting children with SEN and mental health needs allows me to adapt appointments in a gentle and supportive way.

What should I do before my appointment?

There’s no need to attempt aggressive brushing or detangling beforehand, as this can sometimes make the situation worse or cause unnecessary pain. Simply come as you are, and I’ll assess the hair safely and professionally.

How do I book an appointment?

You can get in touch via the contact form, email, phone, or social media. I’m happy to discuss your situation, answer any questions, and arrange a consultation in complete confidence.

Do you offer private or discreet appointments?

Yes. I understand that privacy is important, and all appointments are handled with complete discretion and confidentiality.

What is your goal when helping clients?

My goal is about far more than hair. I aim to restore comfort, confidence, dignity, and self-esteem while providing compassionate support through what can often be a very emotional experience.
